Chinese Wedding Themes

red-fan Having a Chinese wedding is a great way to bring a mix of eastern and western cultures together! Not only are Chinese decorations beautiful, but they can also carry strong meaning through their symbols. One thing I've fallen in love with are the adorable wedding favors you can find! They almost make me want to get married all over again ;)

Chinese Wedding Themes- Color Schemes

The most predominant color in Chinese theme weddings is red. Usually you will see some black, gold and yellow accents as well. Did you know? Traditionally, in a Chinese ceremony, white is bad. This because white is traditionally the color worn at funerals. Red and black are often worn, because they are believed to be the colors of luck and prosperity. This is the reason that in a Chinese ceremony, the bride will usually wear red.

Chinese Wedding Themes- Wedding Invitations

Using red paper, cut the invitation to the size you want. Buy some stamps with Chinese symbols on them (find a symbol with a positive meaning, such as luck or prosperity), and using gold or black ink, stamp the symbols onto the invitations. Or you could make origami invitations, having the wedding information written on the inside.

Chinese Wedding Themes- Wedding Decorations

A traditional Chinese decoration: Get (or make) some Chinese lanterns, and hang them up throughout the room. The most common color you can buy is red, but do some researching and you should be able to find more color selections. Make or buy paintings of Chinese symbols and hang them on the walls. Display Chinese art, with animals on them such as dragons, fish and cranes. For wedding flowers, choose from lilies, orchids and cherry blossoms. Have these scattered around the room, or down the aisle, or have the flower girl toss them from her basket. Large ornamental fans make beautiful Chinese decorations. Waterfalls - Depending on your budget, a waterfall can be a beautiful main focal point, for your ceremony or reception. Or use them as a table centerpiece. Get a whole bunch of Chinese style decorative umbrella's to put on display. Use chopsticks and Chinese dinnerware to authenticate your table setting. Use decorative bamboo around the room and at the guest's tables.
