Have tropical lounge chairs for your guests to sit on. Punch holes through coconuts and string them around the room. (be sure clean out the insides first so they don't start to go bad.) Have a limbo area set up for decoration or for people to play later. Hang leis around the chairs for the guests to wear throughout the night. Tack bright colored flip flop sandals side by side along the walls. Hang grass skirts along the walls. Have tropical flowers (fake or real) everywhere! This should be a big focus since a luau is such a tropical theme. Use hibiscus flowers, daisies and lilies - pretty much any flower you like the look of. Get (or make) some fake palm trees, and put them around the room. Have sea shells, star fish, and toy crabs placed around the room. Have bright colored decorative umbrellas at each table. Turn your bar into a grass hut by giving it a roof, and then attaching grass, hay or straw to cover it. Find tall miniature statues shaped like tiki's, flamingos and torches. Put surfboards up on the walls. (borrow real ones or use inexpensive Styrofoam boards)

Flower leis.

Shell necklaces. You can usually buy these cheap, or you can make them yourself by punching holes through small sea shells and stringing them up into a necklace. Buy some small glass tea light candle holders, and cut a wick to fit inside each one (just long enough for the top of the wick to reach the same height as rim of the glass). Place a few small shells on the bottoms, then fill the glass holders with clear gel wax.
